About

Chillingham Castle is a medieval castle in the village of Chillingham in the northern part of Northumberland, England. It was the seat of the Grey and Bennet families from the 15th century until the 1980s, when it became the home of Sir Edward Humphry Tyrrell Wakefield, 2nd Baronet, who is married to a member of the original Grey family.

A medieval castle originally built as a 12th-century monastery, fortified in 1344 during the Scottish wars. Home to wild Chillingham cattle, a unique enclosed herd dating back 700 years. Rated first place in the Independent on Sunday's top fifty castles in Europe. Famous for its ghosts, including the 'blue boy' who haunted the Pink Room. Features a medieval torture chamber. Rescued from ruin by Sir Humphry Wakefield.
