About

Luffness Castle, also known as Luffness House, is a house built in a former fortification near the village of Aberlady, East Lothian, Scotland.

The site dates from at least the 12th century, with a Norse fort preceding the medieval castle. Held by the de Lindsay family, then the Hepburns, and later the Hopes. Besieged during the 'Rough Wooing' in the 1540s when a French garrison defended it. The medieval elements were incorporated into a later country house. Surrounded by the Luffness estate and adjacent to Aberlady Bay nature reserve.
